In what has been a turbulent past few seasons for HP basketball, the team embark on another season with a new coach at the helm, hoping this time he’s here for the long run. HP also finds themselves with shoes to fill from former players that went on to graduate this past June welcoming a new era of HP basketball.
Coming off a year from the team having to go through an Interim coach, HP looks to find more consistency with new coach. Marvin Bragg Jr. Last year with the interim coach, we found players complaining on the program that he ran causing a toxic environment in the locker room and on the court.
Coach Bragg looks forward to bringing in new culture and bringing success to the HP Basketball program.
“Im excited for this opportunity to share my knowledge of the game with these young men. I’m excited for them as they have been putting in the work and it should be fun to watch this year.”
With the mounting pressure on Coach Bragg for this upcoming season, there is also some pressure on the players who are going to have to step up with many of the last year’s starters graduating.
HP already finds themselves six players down from last year along with 6 new players to fill in. This season will be a season of opportunity as the team searches for new guys to produce this year for the team.
Tylen Singletary, point guard, says,
“With the seniors being gone from last year of course there’s added pressure but I am not worried about that, the starters this year were with me in the second group last year like Adrian and Matthew we played well together. I’m confident that will translate to this season being the ones running the show. As a senior dominant team, It’s our last year so it’s now or never trying to win a championship that has seemed so elusive to this program. The feeling after losing last year in the playoffs to the eventual champions stuck with me, I wanna make sure I don’t feel that again.”
“Excited for the opportunity as these last 3 years in this program have led to this, I plan to make the absolute most of what god has given me as I spend this final season with my teammates that I now consider brothers of mine. Excited to have a great season” says Isaiah Crenshaw, small foward.
In what seems to be a very interesting season for HP boys basketball as they seem to have a lot of questions to answer as a new era of HP boys basketball is among us. They aim to have a great season and win a ring.
