The Spartan Shield is the news publication of Huntington Park High School and is produced by all journalism students, ranging from beginner to advanced.

Mr. Nelson Ta has been the adviser of the program since 2018. Besides journalism, he also teaches English 11, AP Language and Composition, and AVID courses.
Victoria Gonzalez is Spartan Shield’s Editor-in-Chief, Lead Photographer, Social Media Lead, and one of the Reporters in Broadcast. She loves listening to music, rewatching shows she’s seen a bunch of times, and going out to new places. Her favorite thing to is drive around Los Angeles and try new coffee spots. Victoria has been in journalism for three years now, and it has inspired her to pursue journalism as a career in the future.
Emily Negrete is a current senior and Broadcast director for Spartan Shield. She enjoys watching movies, listening to music, and reading. She likes to spend time with her friends and family and explore new places. She’s bass player for her Church’s Worship Group and enjoys serving at events at Church. She hopes to graduate this year and further her education by majoring in Nursing and minoring in Education. She also plans to uphold and continue to uplift her ministry at church in the music and more.
Vanessa Delgadillo is a Senior editorial Editor and Broadcast reporter. She is currently brass captain and Trumpet section leader in Marching Band, as well as band club vice-president. She is also a member of the Debate team and has been a member of the LAUSD honor marching band for 4 years. She would like to attend a 4 year college to major in political science. She would like to be a defense attorney when she’s older.
Suhey Aguilar is a senior, a staff writer, and apart of the social media committee in Spartan Shield. She enjoys watching movies/shows and going to Universal on her free time. She is a group leader in yearbook and enjoys doing math. This school year she hopes to be more outgoing and involved. After high school she wants to go to college but is still unsure on what she wants to major in .
Alexander is a 12th Grader and a Cultural Editor in Spartan shield. He likes to be Musically connected, he plays the guitar and is learning how to DJ. He is in Modern Band being Lead guitarist and vocalist. This year he hopes to make a comeback in his academic excellence and prove to people that you can still have fun and do things outside of school while still having a good performance in his year. After Highschool Alexander wants to do 4 years of Political Science and 4 years of Law school to try to become a Criminal Injustice Lawyer.
Adrian is a senior and sports editor in Spartan Shield. He loves to play basketball and watch sports while also listening to music . He is one of the captains of the varsity basketball team and enjoys to travel . His goals are to attend UC San Diego to major in sports journalism and walk the stage this upcoming June.
Samantha Castillo is a Senior and is Podcast lead, Broadcast Anchor and Staff Writer in Spartan Shield. Outside of Spartan Shield, Sammy is involved in Cheerleading and is a part of the Yearbook staff. Sammy is also a member of the Stress Free Club and TUPE. During her free time, she enjoys listening to music, watching TV shows and movies, and going on walks. Her favorite artist is Frank Ocean, and her favorite movie is The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This school year, she hopes to keep up with her academics and maintain straight A’s. After graduating from High School, she would like to attend a UC and major in nursing in order to pursue a career in Pediatric nursing or Neonatal nursing.
Antoni is a senior and a staff writer, reporter, and photographer in Spartan Shield. Antoni enjoys playing guitar and going out with friends. Antoni is a member of modern band, and Robotics. Antoni’s goals for this year are to keep good grades.
Melany Gomez is a senior and a reporter, anchor, and staff writer for Spartan Shield. She enjoys shopping, listening to music, and scrolling on pinterest. Her hobbies include playing volleyball and golf. She is a dedicated student and hopes to maintain all A’s while improving her 4.1 GPA. In the future, Melany hopes to major in chemistry and go on to study forensic science.
Giovanny is a 12th grader and a script writer as well as a photographer. Some of his interest are cooking and listening to true crime stories. He also enjoy listening to music and watching movies. He also is a member of Modern Band, Robotics, and Science Olympiad. They hope to go to UCLA or UCSB and study mechanical engineering. He is also a fan of many franchises like Marvel and DC.
Samantha Chicho is a senior and a staff writer and apart of the social media committee. She is also apart of ASB and is the treasurer for that club. Samantha is also a morning announcer for school events and important school news. She is very dedicated about her involvement with the school. She hopes to attend Cal State Long Beach and pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher for elementary kids.
Andrew is a Junior also a staff writer and a photographer in Spartan Shield. Out of school he enjoys watching shows and listening to music. He enjoys playing baseball and he currently play for hps baseball team. His goals for this year are to get higher than a 3.7 gpa and also for the future he is hoping to become a Registered nurse. He is also very quiet
Xavier Morales is a current senior and an News Anchor, Broadcast editor, and producer in Spartan Shield. He loves to play video games, listen to music, and hanging out with friends. Xavier Morales is going on his 4th year of Marching Band as the Drum Major. Xavier hopes to achieve first place champs for marching band and hopefully participate for SCSBOA championship again.
Katelaine Lopez is a senior and a broadcasting anchor in Spartan Shield. She loves listening to music, spending time with family, loves to eat food, and loves reading. She has been apart of cheer for 3 years and is now team manager. She is also secretary for familia unida, has been apart of yearbook for 2 years, and has been apart of the T.U.P.E program for 3 years. This year she hopes to maintain straight A´s.
Brianna Miranda is a senior and Broadcast reporter/ editor. She enjoys traveling, napping, exploring new places with family and spending time alone. She’s also part of track and field, yearbook, and plays soccer outside of school. A goal of hers in life is to get into her dream university in hopes of being a nurse practitioner. This year she expects to get good grades, meet new people, and make great memories. She is thoughtful and quiet.
Rudy Chavez is a current senior and is an anchor in Spartan Shield. Outside of school he likes gaming, running and playing soccer. He also partakes in cross country, soccer and track and does SRLA as well. His goals this year is to graduate with perfect attendance and high academic grades. In the future Rudy plans on pursuing engineering. His favorite tv show is Pokemon, specifically Pokemon XYZ.
Allison Ramirez is a current senior and staff writer/photographer in Spartan Shield. Some of her interests include running, doing graffiti, and taking pictures. She is participating in cross country and really enjoys to run. Some of her goals for this year is to be more involved in school activities. Her main goal is to become a registered nurse and to graduate from Pepperdine University.
Monserrath Bucio Mondragon is a current junior and the News Editor of Spartan Shield. They’re also the current President of the Debate club, and part of the Peer Health Advocate program. In the future they hope to attend a 4-year university like UCLA or Pomona College to pursue Biomedical Science. Some of her hobbies include crocheting and crafts.
Delilah Cardona is a senior and a photographer and director in Spartan Shield. She enjoys listening to music as well as reading and watching shows in her free time. She is the AVID president and is involved in clubs like youth activism and robotics. She also participates in tumbling outside of school. Her goal for this year is to stay on top of her work and balance staying in her extracurricular activities while thriving in her studies. She would also like to make it into a UC with a poli-sci major.
Lunah Chavarria is a Junior and a photographer in Spartan Shield. She loves to watch romance, action, and horror movies. Reading is something she also loves to do, owning over 30 books at home as well as loving music so much she listens to it electronically and physically. She is currently in both book and key club, and is doing what she can to get through high school in once piece. Through her second to last year in high school, she wants to focus on her studies, her friends, and herself.
