Five Nights At Freddy’s On The Big Screen

Five Nights at Freddy’s has been embedded into most of our generation’s childhood. It’s a game that many know of and have come to love. Five Nights at Freddy’s or FNAF for short, is a horror video game series created by Scott Cawthon.

The first Five Nights at Freddy’s game was released on August 8, 2014. At this point in time, YouTube was at its peak dominating other social platforms. TikTok didn’t exist, nor did many other social media that we have nowadays. When Five Nights at Freddy’s was released, many YouTubers streamed their gameplay of the game.

Youtubers received positive feedback from their fans and suggestions on what to do to pass the game. The process of giving Youtubers feedback and waiting for them to try it out on their next video is what kept many engaged in the video game series. The video game sales quickly skyrocketed because of their immense amusement to the public. Throughout the videogame series, players* play as a security guard who has to keep watch of haunted animatronics.

These animatronics are haunted by the souls of children who were murdered by the main antagonist Willam Afton. As you play through the game, the animatronics try to stuff you into a character suit thinking you’re the one who killed them. The game reminds many of the famous Chuck E Cheese family and game diner, because of its animal animatronics and party-like attributes.

As the creator released more and more games, fans started putting together a story that connected all the games into a big story, better known as the Five Nights at Freddy’s lore. The FNAF lore is something fans take seriously. Fans are always looking for hidden small details through the video game series to add and connect the dots with the lore. What some might not know is that besides the game, there are books.

On October 27, 2023, the company Blumhouse released the awaited Five Nights at Freddy’s movie.

Blumhouse is a well-known American movie and TV show production company. After many years in the entertainment, the game was brought up to the big screen. Unexpectedly, the movie was based on the book trilogy rather than the video game series’ lore.

This brought a lot of different reactions to the movie. Some fans hated the different plot while others loved it. Some didn’t even care and were just ecstatic with the idea of FNAF being on the big screen. For this movie, the 4 main animatronics and Springtrap suit were made by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

The animatronics’ names were Bonnie, Freddy, Chicka, and Foxy.  Three of these animatronics were controlled by 4 people with the exception of Foxy who needed 5. The Springsuit was worn by William Afton played by Matthew Lillard.

The protagonists of the movie were Josh Hutcherson who played the main protagonist, alongside Elizabeth Lail who played Vanessa, and Piper Rubio who played Abby. Overall the movie received an audience rating of 4.4 stars. The love and appreciation from the public is what will motivate Blumhouse Productions to release a FNAF trilogy.
