The Texas Rangers won the World Series this year, beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 5- 0 in game 5. This is the first time the Texas Rangers won the title of World Series champions and it can signify change in the baseball world.
The annual championship series of Major League Baseball (MLB), known as the Baseball World Series, marks the culmination of the MLB postseason. This year is the 119th edition of the Baseball World Series which started in 1903.
In a recent appearance, Chris Young, executive vice president and general manager of the Texas Rangers had with USA Today, stated, “Our history has changed. These were a hungry group of guys who were so sick and tired of losing, and now it’s over. Our fans have waited an awful long time. Now, they can finally celebrate a great baseball team, a championship baseball team.’’ The team had lost 102 games in 2021 and finished 68-94 the last season. The team’s victory in the World Series marks their achievement as the third team to win the championship within a span of two years following a season with 100 losses.
One of the Ranger’s new star players, Corey Seager, ranger’s shortstop, who used to play in the Dodgers team, is the 4th baseball player to win the world series twice and was named MVP. He hit 3 home runs in 3 of the 5 games. Many believe that Corey Seager contributed a lot to the Rangers winning and that he has given them hope to win.
The World Series starts with the playoffs, mostly known as the postseason. There are 4 rounds in the postseason: the wild card game, division series, championship series, and then the world series. The two winners from the championship series play against each other in the World Series.
There are a total of 5 games that the World Series consists of and the Texas Rangers have won 4 out of 5 against the Diamondbacks. The Rangers did have the home-field advantage as they had the best record in the regular season.
The first two games in the WS were played at the Ranger’s home field, Globe Life with a score of 6-5 and 9-1. The second game was won by Diamondbacks making it the only game they won in the World Series. The 3rd and 4th games were played at the Diamondbacks field (Chase Field) with a score of 3-1 and 11-7.
The last game of the WS was at the Diamondbacks field with a winning score of 5-0 and had an attendance of 48,511 people. Many die-hard fans were there to witness history in the MLB series. At the beginning of the last inning, the score was down to 5 – 0 with the Texas Rangers being 3 outs away from winning. Josh Sborz, ranger’s pitcher, pitched 2 balls and 2 strikes against player Ketel Marte before throwing the last winning strike.
