The boy’s basketball season has finally begun, and they have been working hard to prepare for their first upcoming games. They have been practicing after school such as doing drills and game-type situations to help prepare them for actual games
The boys and Coach Reed feel very excited and confident about the new season. The team has about 8 returners in this season and about 9 new people. Coach Reed who has been coaching for 20+ years is thrilled and optimistic about the season. He feels that the team is working hard and that they cooperate with one another.
The team seems to be friends with each other and all get along. “I think one of the keys to having a successful team is a group that kind of bonds together and kind of meshes both on and off the court,” said Coach Reed.
“We all like to have fun, make people laugh, and enjoy each other’s company. We go out to the park and play basketball,” stated Ronald Pruitt
This is how the basketball team gets along with each other and connects with one another.
A team is only successful when the players know how to blend well together, not only in the game but also as friends outside of the game. If there is no team chemistry, it could lead to future problems such as misunderstandings, miscommunication, arguments, etc, which only end up affecting the team.
Juniors, Julian Avalos and David Crenshaw feel fearless and confident for this season. They feel like they have no worries for the season.
They’re both ready to take on whatever comes their way. “We’ve played a lot of tough schools that are “better” and we’ve put up a good fight with them,” said Julian.
Since they feel like they have gone against “better” or more difficult schools, they’re not scared to go against them again. They’re there to handle business and have no room for fear.
“I wasn’t really confident in myself, I always overthought everything, about shooting, defense, and everything, but now I could say I’m more confident.” quoted David Crenshaw.
Last year, Crenshaw wasn’t as confident as he is now, which has helped him with basketball. Confidence has made him a better player and he has a better mindset on the court.
Last season, the basketball team made it far and made it to the CIF championships but lost the final game against SotoMayer 50-56. Some of the returning players reflected on their experiences.
“Do the same as last year just one step further,” said Coach Reed. “Make it far in the playoffs and hopefully the championship game like last year,” stated Julian Avalos. “Just to win honestly and just to be better.” expressed David Crenshaw.
They all have matching mindsets and want the same goal as last year, to win the championship game.
