Revolving around rewarding films, actors, producers, and directors for the hard work they put out into the world for people like us to enjoy,
viewers can cast their votes for all the categories considered such as best actress or best actor. The Golden Globes has grown very popular since its start in 1944 when an ‘informal’ award event took place to give well-deserved credit to film industry professionals.
Categories have been added and removed throughout the years, taking into account that black and white films are not as popular as they were in the older years. The Golden Globes has removed it from their award categories.
In 2007, they added an award for “Best Animated Feature Film” which had been awarded to Pixar’s movie Cars. This year’s nominees were Wish, Elemental, The Boy and the Heron, and The Super Mario Bros. For this part of the event, The Boy and the Heron took home the prize.
As of today, this event has 27 categories which are given to 14 for motion pictures and 13 for television. The 81st annual Golden Globes was held on January 7th, 2024. It was an amazing start of the year for all those in the film industry. This year, each category had six nominees instead of five and added two new awards for box office achievements and stand-up comedy performances.
This year’s Golden Globes Awards event has become what people are obsessing over due to its various popular award winners and nominees.
It has also been receiving controversial feedback being shared on the internet after the event was streamed. The viewers were given images of one of the new celebrity ‘it’ couples but also moments of second-hand embarrassment from host Jo Koy.
One of the most controversial situations at this event was a joke made by host, Jo Koy, who went on to say “Oppenheimer is based on a 721-page Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the Manhattan Project, and Barbie is on a plastic doll with big boobies” (Koy).
The movie Oppenheimer was also awarded and nominated in many categories at the Golden Globes. Yet, Jo Koy believed it was appropriate to put down one film for another.
As cameras panned through the crowd, facial expressions were not what a comedian would hope for.
The room was filled with disgusted and unpleasant faces by the audience who had not expected a joke that went against the whole reason behind the Barbie movie.

These two had been rumored to be dating since April but weren’t seen in public together until September of 2023. In the clip of the couple, they are sharing smiles while having a conversation that fans have been trying to decipher for themselves.
The Golden Globes of 2024 was one of the biggest events to start off the year.
