Alumni Teachers Then vs Now

Take a look at the differences between the years and what they look like teaching and working at Huntington Park High School as alumni.

The alumni teachers consist of Cynthia Ramirez-Gomez, Cynthia Tiscareño, and Natalie Fraire. As well as the academic advisor, Kimberley Martinez.

Ms. Ramirez-Gomez graduated from HP in the class of 1994. She then went on to attend and graduated from California State Los Angeles University in 2001. She obtained her teaching credentials and her bachelor’s degree, majoring in Spanish literature and linguistics. She then started teaching at HP in 2001. She currently teaches Spanish 1, and 2. As well as AP Spanish Literature and Language.

“When I first started teaching I wanted my students to have fun, enjoy my class, and love Spanish like I did and still do.”

“I decided to come back to teach at HP because I started as a teaching assistant and then a job opened up and I didn’t want to leave,” Ms.Ramirez stated.

“My experience as a student was really good, I had a lot of really good friends and I was involved in a lot of clubs. I still have my best friends from high school. It really has changed a lot we would wear really baggy pants with tight shirts and dark lip liner,” said Ms.Martinez.

Ms. Martinez graduated from HP in the class of 2012. She then went on to attend and graduated from University of California Merced in 2016. Where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in psychology. She started working with HP online during the pandemic, her first year on campus was the 2020-2021 school year with Gear Up as an academic advisor.

“HP for me was good, there were a lot of activities, we had a lot more pride and school spirit. I had a good high school experience. I remember doing powder puff, senior rock painting was huge. As we would always look forward to it, we would all come out super painted.”

“Though, working with the students for the last four years has been truly rewarding in the sense that we watch you guys grow as students and help prepare you for life after high school whether it’s college or finding a job,” stated Ms.martinez.

Ms. Tiscareño graduated from HP in 2000 as class Valedictorian. She attended California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 2005 where she obtained her teaching credentials and her bachelors. Majoring in biology, minoring in microbiology, and botany. She officially started teaching in 2007. She currently teaches biology, AP Biology, AVID, and zoology.

“I had a pretty good experience as a student, I felt my teachers were pretty good at preparing me for college, I was involved in Key Club, Mug Club, and Humanitarians Club. I was in C-track when I started school so we also had tight shirts, baggy pants, with Vans and Converse, with short hair,” stated Ms.Tiscareno.

“I fulfill a lot of roles. I’m a counselor for some students, a mother figure to others because they see me as a consistent adult in their life. I enjoy my job, the thought of being a reason for these students doing well in life after they graduate keeps me going,” said Ms.Tiscareno.
