The Spartans who flip and tumble are back for the 2024-2025 Cheer season! This season there are 32 team members with 17 returners and 15 members being newcomers to the HPHS Cheer team.
While the season has just officially started the HP Cheerleaders have been practicing since the start of the summer. Despite the sport only having competition seasons in the winter and spring, they also have football season in the fall allowing the girls to continue practicing year round.
“We do most of our prep work in the summertime and also attend camp,” said Coach Sarah Huerta
While there are Cheer Competitions throughout winter and spring the two types of competitions are very different. In the spring: Game Day Comps and Stunt Comps. Game Day competitions are where teams can showcase their routines that are performed at Home Football games. Stunt Competitions consist of teams showing different routines that are made with dance, tumbling, pyramids, and tosses.

When asked about the plans for this competition season Coach Huerta says “This year I’m not sure what the plans are for the Spring, but we’ll be competing again.” referencing the two options between Spring competitions
Coach further mentions that a goal of her’s is to have the girls attend and compete in Nationals that take place February 14-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In order to make this goal a reality the team needs to focus on scoring high in regionals and fundraising for the trip.
Not only is this a goal for Coach Huerta but also for the team. When asked Aleeya Gonzalez, a Senior and returner, explained that a goal she has for the team is to participate in the Vegas competition.
Another player asked about team goals was Isabella Vascones, also a senior and returner.
She states “My goal for the team is to see them succeed and work as a team. Not just as team but also themselves, so that they can became leaders in the future”
Isabella says something she is most excited for is to see what this season holds as this is her final season with the team. Aleeya says that this season she is looking forward to competition season.
