The Huntington Park Girls volleyball is back for the 2024-2025 season, and they are off to a great start by winning opening matches.
This season, they are better than ever! They have 12 games scheduled this year. Six of those games being away and the other 6 at home. So far they have played 3, winning 2 of them here at HP.
According to Ms. Nicole Perkins one of the coaches, winning the first 2 games of the season was “A great moral boost for the girls”
When it came to that third game of the season, the girls thought nothing could beat them but when they lost it was “almost frustrating” according to Erica Lovo. But despite that they did an amazing job.
“The girls did a great job going all the way to 5 sets, even with a starter missing from the line-up because of Covid, So i was proud of them, nonetheless,” Said Ms Perkins
This year, something that is different from previous year is that they have returners who have been a part of this program for 3 years. Which means they know the system, routines and how everything functions. These dedicated players even practiced all summer before the season started which is gracefully helping them improve. Even the chemistry between the players has improved.
Tryouts this year were held on May 28 and 30 bringing in a couple new players and 8 returners.
“We have a lot of support from people and the team has way more chemistry this year, both JV and Varsity” said Erica Lovo
Players that are making a big impact on the team include, Sophomores Jessica Aguliar and Liliana Armenta who are proving to be a force to be reckoned with. This also includes Junior Diana Issac who has advanced since playing in JV.
The future of this volleyball team is looking successful so far, lets hope for a great season!
