After coming off another successful year, HPs Color Guard and Marching Band are looking to have another great year. With both placing 1st at the LAUSD Beyond the bell Marching Band Championships for the second year in a row and also receiving the High Auxiliary award for their show, “Ancient Egypt,”. They are both heavily anticipated to have another great year.
The Band and Drill Team Championships is an annual celebration of the highest level performance LAUSD has to offer. With our HP Spartans winning the championship two years in a row, it leaves many thinking what more they can accomplish.
Earlier this year for the first time in school history, HP’s very own Color Guard participated in the Winter Guard International competition (WGI). The drumline also had a successful 2024, winning four consecutive first-place finishes before taking 2nd at the Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC) championships. HP’s both band and color guard succeeding efficiently at what they do best they are certainly turning a lot of heads throughout the campus at a sport that has always usually always been overlooked.
“We would like it but it would be very challenging and we would have to dedicate more time to our show and have more field time and a bit more funding, they would like the idea of us competing in higher ranks”.
says Brandon Lara, a member of the schools’ Marching Band when asked about if they hope to continue their accomplishments.
“It has definitely been an amazing experience, having the opportunity to participate in tournaments out of the city like San Diego… We know our drumline usually finishes first in those tournaments while us in colorguard finishes top 3”.
says a very confident Wendy Sanchez as she looks to finish off her senior year.
Ultimately with showing off what the Spartans can do, they are destined to have more promising seasons to come. With placing high last season also received the High Auxiliary award for their show, “Ancient Egypt”. The current impact the band members have on each other it not only shows greatness but potential yet to come for the team.
