Hp football’s struggles

In what has been very uncharted territory for our Huntington Park Football team as they start the year off in one of the longest losing streaks our school has witnessed in years. Along with the possibility of surrendering a losing season after just coming off a successful season with a winning record of 7-4, a team searching anxiously for an identity which has seemed elusive can they find one and turn things around?

What seems to be the problem?

Looking back at a year ago, HP relied heavily on their seniors for much of the workload last year which was successful for them going on to finish with a winning record overall and as well in league. This year things are much different in what has been seen as a transition year with only 12 returning Varsity players this year compared to last year when HP had at least 20 returning players that had played on Varsity.

“Obviously overall the feeling is not great as we know this is not who we are, we have a group full of optimistic studs if there was ever a group I felt that could turn this around it would be this group. I make sure in the locker room to hype them up and never make them lose hope no matter how bumpy this season has been. As a captain I hold myself to be an example to never stop working hard and to play to the end. Shout out to my O-Line bro.”

says Daniel Vazquez, the starting Quarter Back for HP.

Help is on the way for HP as they are getting key players back from injury to help HP get back into the winning ways that they have been used to for the past few years. A very eager Coach Jimenez who is also experiencing adversity as since he has taken over the head coach role for HP he has led them to many winning seasons leaving Coach Jimenez having to overcome the difficult season together with his team.

“In my time here I have never had a season like this…Yeah, we’re getting healthy. I know we’re getting a few guys back this week…I’ll say barring any setbacks by South East we will be full strength ready to go”.
