Fall Sports recap

Despite facing unexpected challenges, the HPHS football team continued to show up and put in the work, using each setback as motivation to improve. With a handful of different challenges throughout all sports, Varsity football was hoping to have another successful season but due to a numerous amount of injuries and loss of many seniors it caused them to go down to 2-8 for the year.

Week after week, new obstacles popped up, but the players never let them define their season. Instead, they treated every practice and games as a chance to grow and push past their limits.

Danny Siordia, senior, reflected on the season, saying, “No matter the score or setbacks, we stayed together as a team and gave everything we had on the field. We might’ve come up short in games, but we never stopped competing, believing, or giving it our all.”

Moving past this season, the football team’s goal for the off-season is to  focus on discipline, growth, and preparation both on and off the field. Training will focus on not only physical strength but also mental toughness. The purpose isn’t just to get stronger, but to build lasting habits that prepare the team for challenges beyond football. Coaches are committed to teaching accountability, teamwork, and responsibility not just to develop better athletes, but to help shape better young men for life beyond the game.

girls flag football

Girls Flag Football also had their share of problems having a not successful season going 3-12-2. Despite the record Girls flag football had some promising moments throughout the season .. While the record didn’t reflect the effort, the girls explained to start off on a “rocky start” but all can agree that the experience alone to be on such a team is worth it. The girls reflect on their season, putting aside the wins and saying all through it was a successful season, having a lot of good memories while also gaining experience.

Kandie Chavez, captain and wide receiver,  reminisces on the season and shares the girls best memories as a team. Having many good memories Kandie mainly reflected on going to the Rams Jamboree Flag Football tournament and shares that

“It was a really great experience for the team and myself because we all got together and we all had a good time,”

Having many good experiences with the team Kandie reflects on the year saying

“Overall being in the team is a fun experience but seeing everyone else enjoy it made it better.”

Trinity Jedlick, Senior & lineman  shares her success as her first time playing football with her most recently getting signed up as an All Star and states that

“I would recommend anyone to join flag football… I’ve never touched a football from the beginning of the year till now and now im getting signed up as an all star”

reflecting on her accomplishments she recommends all girls having experience or not, to go out there next year and try out.

On a brighter note , after winning a championship the previous year, Girls Varsity Volleyball faced great expectations this season. After an 11-10 season, they made it to the playoffs this year, demonstrating their determination to keep going. The girls demonstrated this year—with or without the seniors from last year—that they are committed to moving forward after having strong seasons in previous years.

Many people had recently questioned if the ladies could thrive without the seniors from their previous season, so it was a huge relief for them to make it to the playoffs once more. The girls got off to a great start, winning their first two playoff games, 3-1 in the first and 3-0 in the second, demonstrating the same intensity from prior seasons. Sadly, they lost 3-0 against South East, who they had previously defeated during the regular season, in their third game.

With having a very successful season despite facing challenges like losing key varsity players DIana Isaac #23 explains

“Losing our seniors meant creating a whole new season…many players had to step up as leaders and train twice as hard because of how fast the season came.”

Even though they didn’t succeed, the girls hope to improve in areas they didn’t have in order to have an even better season the next year. Improving attacking and chemistry are the primary concerns. The girls are eager for the next season and are committed to making up for what they were unable to provide.

hp girls golf

Girls Golf, a sport recently introduced to Huntington Park High, is making steady progress just finishing their 4th season. From being a sport not really familiar to the local community they are taking big steps. Despite not winning any games for the season the girls stay determined and are looking forward to seeing improvements for the team in the upcoming season.

With Huntington park high lacking transportation and equipment for daily golf necessities, the girls and coach stay firm on getting their practice done. With being able to get down basic golf fundamentals done twice a week. Although coach Moreno’s main focus is on growth, he advises them to have fun and not take things too seriously. As a result, he allows girls to enjoy themselves to the fullest.

This season, losing every game this season is the biggest worry for girls’ golf. Coach Moreno talks about situation saying

“Having 80% of the team being beginners with 0 experience , it was a little difficult getting basic understanding and most fundamentals down… comparing the girls from the beginning till now I’ve seen major improvements in understanding and playing the game.. I think girls she be 100% ready for next season to get wins”

Given the fact they lost all games, for next season the girls can now build off experience to be more than prepared for next season.

hp cross country

The cross-country team for Huntington Park High has also been decided. This season has been successful, with the majority of players breaking personal records while maintaining their loyalty to the team and school. Like any other sport, there were many highs and lows over the season, but most players believe that their team’s foundation this year was their greatest accomplishment.

The cross-country squad all agreed going into this year that the absence of seniors from the year before altered the atmosphere. Due to the fact that the majority of seniors demonstrated both leadership and experience for their underclassmates. Even though losing upperclassmen was challenging, it encouraged the new upperclassmen to stand up and take on more responsibility in order to lead the team and have teammates who had faith in them as well as in themselves.

Having being prepared for the next season without relying on anyone this time

Sergio Morales, Sophomore Mid distance runner discussed “I’m pretty confident about next season . We have talent, we have work ethic, and we’re only getting stronger. If we stay consistent, next season could be one of our best.”

As the season comes to an end for this fall, each team walks away with more than wins or loses but accomplishments set by players and teams. From pushing through injuries, rebuilding after losing seniors, competing in unfamiliar sports, to breaking personal records and forming memories that will last beyond high school. Huntington Park’s athletes proved what it means to represent their school with heart. With new leaders emerging, and young talent rising, every program is motivated to return stronger, the future of HPHS looks brighter than ever. This season may have brought its challenges, but it also built the foundation for what could become an even stronger year ahead.
