HP Boys Soccer team is known across campus as the one of most consistent and dominant Boy programs in the school. After last year’s playoff run ended in a heartbreak in the finals of a score of 1-0, the squad looks determined to return with the same momentum this time aiming to finish the job and become CIF champions.
Now as the season comes to a fresh start, the boys are determined as ever to have another successful season. This offseason, the boys trained hard and stayed focused to keep that winning mindset ending the preseason 6-3 facing both success and struggle.
“Coming off this preseason we learned where were at as a time, now that we seem to be headed down a good path we need to have the same energy and confidence we have to keep on winning” Anthony Perlera, Senior #5.
One of the main highlights of this offseason was the Maywood Thanksgiving Classic, starting off the tournament HP looked very promising winning all the group stages, while even beating South La college prep 13-0 in the last group stage match. Making it to the next stage HP played in the quarter finals also beating Fairfax highschool 4-1. Having a good stretch the boys came up again in a deja vu moment losing to Bell highschool in the semi finals once again a heartbreaker to their bitter rivals.
Coming to an end, and the season coming to a start, their performances this offseason showed not just their talent they have as a team but the hunger they need for when the real games start. Moving on from the preseason, the Spartans are awaiting another thrilling season having the opportunity to face familiar faces like Bell and Southgate. Heading to a season start the players described the training as hard but worth it in the end.
“With practices being challenging mentally and physically, heading onto this season me and the team can agree that our confidence is at an all time high, we are ready more than for any challenges this season” says Anthony Perlera, Senior #5.
With all the team agreeing that they are undoubtedly prepared for this season. Now we watch if the boys can keep their word.
