ANother rigged grammys

Artists love being involved in many award ceremonies like the BET awards, MTV awards, or the Teen Choice Awards. Even though there is a variety, no musical artist will ever enjoy any other award other than the Grammy. The Grammys have been around for almost 68 years! And artists around the world still find the goal to achieve one. One main reason isn’t because of how nice the award is, but the process of getting it. In order to win a Grammy, you need to not only be an active music creator but be nominated and voted by the Academy. The Academy is a group of people that can be music performers, songwriters, and producers. They have to secretly keep themselves away from announcing themselves being in the academy to get away from bias. Knowing that a “secret” society looks at your pieces and thinks your art won the song or album of the year, it would truly feel honoring.

Although it is a group of people voting on who wins. They never consider what the fans think, which leads to criticism every year. For example, there was a huge online outburst during the 2019 Grammys. The best Rap album of the year was being announced and everyone thought that Travis Scott was going to win for his album “Astro World”. The academy chose Cardi B’s album (Invasion of Privacy) and made people question if the academy is really listening to the music?

Even though there are no winners announced yet for this year’s nominations, there is still havoc on the internet! Everyone is waiting to see who will win Album of the Year, and the nominations are the following. ‘Debi Tirar Mas Fotos’, ‘Chromakopia’, ‘Mutt’, ‘GNX’, ‘Mayhem’, ‘Man’s Best Friends’, ‘Swag’, and ‘Let God Sort Them Out’. Seeing all these albums announced, everyone saw at least one person missing. Fans think that the one album that should be in the nomination and should win is The Weekend with ‘Hurry up Tomorrow’.

“Hurry up Tomorrow” was still published by the “Deadline” to be announced for a Grammy nominee. Many rants have been brought up on the internet by many fans talking about how they think all these nominations are just “industry plants” and they don’t seek for real talent. The havoc brought a lot of criticism to other artists as well. Social Media users say that Mutt should not be in the spotlight, nor let god sort them out. People will always say “Who are they” or “ Never even heard the album on the radio”, which makes them wonder if they know where the talent is located. Fame and talent are two different things and people will always prefer fame, and if someone is most famous for a different album then of course they won’t get called in for the one they just did.

This isn’t about fame though, The weekend had a massive tour for his album that sold out many shows around countries. He was most known for his show selling out at SOFI stadium in 3 days! The attention is definitely there for the album. This mystery keeps living on because the academy can’t talk about the nominations, The Weekend has yet to speak out about the situation as well. With all the havoc across the internet, we proceed to question whether the academy really does check these albums with bias or not.
