Get Back!

The new Beatles film, or more accurately, films, have been announced for release sometime in 2028. The groundbreaking British rock band was composed of four members: George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr. The band redefined popular music and is one of the most influential groups in music history. However, what’s so special about this new film?

The release consists of 4 films, one portraying each member’s perspective. Sam Mendes, one of the producers taking on this huge project, has stated that these films all focus on the different viewpoints of each of the Beatles. A very different approach compared to previous documentaries. A previous documentary released by Disney featured the recording process of their final album, Let It Be. The documentary showed unreleased footage of the band’s 22-day rehearsal and recording sessions. The footage showed the band’s intense creative process and the high tension that arose. The band’s dynamic was a huge part of the recordings, showing the moment George Harrison temporarily quit the band and the other tense moments leading up to their first live performance in two years and their last one.

Despite the many documentaries that have been released, many fans are still left with unanswered questions, and hope the new films are able to answer those questions. Although many fans are ecstatic over the new films, many are upset at the “inaccurate” casting. Some comments are already calling the new movie a “nightmare” and “a joke,” while others congratulate the actors, saying their talent will accurately showcase the personality of each Beatle. Many fans have no complaints about the casting, saying, “It’s just a movie,” and actors won’t look completely similar to the real person.

The casting isn’t the only negative feedback that has been received; many are confused about why 4 separate films are being released. Many question how directors plan to entice the audience into picking one of the 4 movies. Many believe that the John Lennon and Paul McCartney movies will be the ones with the most views, given that they are more popular. However, many begin to think maybe this is all a big money grab, who would pay to see all 4 movies?

Although there are some flaws within the release, it is a concept that hasn’t been seen before. We get to see and dig deeper into what caused the split between the rock band. It’s unique in the sense that a different perspective is shown; other documentaries and other movies had been deemed “difficult” for viewers to understand, as the full story was lost in between the scenes. However, now these movies are focusing completely on one person, giving the audience a chance to see behind the scenes.
